The search market continues its turbulent times as keyword-seller Overture is looking to buy CMGI’s Altavista. This comes just a few weeks after Yahoo announced it has proposed a buyout of Inktomi, in an attempt to lessen its reliance on Google. Google, in turn announced its purchase of weblog innovator Blogger.
The search engines have clearly become the gatekeepers of the Internet, and more consolidation puts that almost-monopoly power into fewer and fewer hands. Watch this one closely.
